On last night's Colbert Report it was announced that a National "straw poll" of the Democratic contenders would be held on DonorsChoose.org
There is video of the segment "Wednesday Mar. 19, 2008 - Pennsylvania Primary" available currently at Colbert Nation Website. I couldn't get it to embed.
I looked but could not find any diaries that mentioned this. The concept is to allow supporters of Clinton or Obama to make a [tax deductible {thanks Musikal203}]
donation to various Pennsylvania charities and the candidate with the most donated (No doubt in comparison to the $66,000 Colbert's supporters raised for SC schools.)
Check out the leaderboard here.
As of the time that this was published the tally was:
Obama
$8,885
164 Donors
An avg or $54.18
Clinton
$5,332
33 Donors
An avg of $161.58
Looks familiar to me. I wonder how many of that 33 are defense contractors or pharmaceutical companies?
Addendum - For full disclosure I donated $100 toward Obama's total. I hope that doesnt make me sound like a effete, sandal wearing, latte drinking gazillionaire. (And for the records I drink Americano's)
[UPDATED LEADERBOARD]
In the hour or so since this went up Obama has garnered almost $3 for every $1 and 5 donations to every 1 for Clinton. KEEP IT UP!
Obama
$10,139
194 Donors
An avg or $52.27
Clinton
$5,764
39 Donors
An avg of $147.80
[RE-UPDATED LEADERBOARD]
Since I first posted (and I do not presume to suggest, request, or imply that it has in anyway effected the totals) The numbers for Obama have gone up $4,861 (+55%) and 80 donations (+49%). Senator Clinton's numbers are increasing at a slightly slower pace
Obama (increase since ~1pm)
$13,746 (+55%)
244 Donors (+49%)
An avg or $56.34 (+$4.07)
Clinton
$5,950 (+12%)
45 Donors (+37%)
An avg of $132.23 (-$29.35) [In all fairness it was a pretty high average to maintain]
