Yesterday I posted a diary giving the Leaderboard for Stephen Colbert's Democralypse Now Pensylvania Straw Poll on DonorsChoose.org
To clarify for those who were unaware of this, on Wednesday Stephen Colbert, in conjunction with cause, announced he is conducting a Pennsylvania Primary Straw poll. You support your candidate by making a tax deductible donation to a school project in Pennsylvania. The candidate who raised the most (in comparison to Colbert's $66K in his failed SC Primary bid) shall be declared the winner
There is video of the segment "Wednesday Mar. 19, 2008 - Pennsylvania Primary" available currently at Colbert Nation Website. I couldn't get it to embed.
I provided a leaderboard yesterday around 1:00PM and a scant 25 hours later and it seems that Obama supporters are coming through for the Senator from Illinois...BIG TIME!
Yesterday at approx 1:00PM
Obama
$8,885
164 Donors
An avg or $54.18
Clinton
$5,332
33 Donors
An avg of $161.58
Today at 2:15PM (increase since 1:00PM on 03/20)
Obama
$28,189 (+217%)
489 Donors (+198%)
An avg or $57.65 (+$3.47)
Clinton
$9,805 (+84%)
76 Donors (+130%)
An avg of $129.01 (-$32.56)
Granted, in Sen. Clinton's defense, an average donation of $162 would be difficult to maintain. Nevertheless it is striking to see how much support Sen. Obama has garnered.
But the most important thing to remember in all of this is that these tax deductible donations are going directly to support needy kids in schools, so regardless who you support it is a worthwhile cause.
Also, for full disclosure I donated to Obama and if diarying an update to a diary is aginst protocol I apologize.
